Custom Chopper Signed By Obama To Be Auctioned

WASHINGTON (AP) - A custom-designed motorcycle signed by President Barack Obama will be auctioned in Las Vegas to support military families.

The United States Army Chopper bearing Obama's signature, along with autographs from Vice President Joe Biden and national security adviser James Jones, will be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. on September 23-25 to benefit the Fisher House Foundation.

The foundation builds houses around the country and donates them to the government to provide free housing to military families who have someone being treated at a military or Veterans Affairs hospital. There are 49 Fisher Houses on the grounds of military and VA medical centers.

The motorcycle, built by Hardcore Choppers of Sterling, Va., was designed to recall 1950s European race cars. It features a six-speed transmission and a 150-horsepower engine.

Fall Pumpkin Festival

Ticonderoga Farms is a hidden treasure right next to South Riding in Chantilly. It's on over 1000 acres and is family owned for over 5 generations. This is a great secret to those who normally love Cox's Farm right down the road. You won't find the dreaded lines like those at Cox's. And although there aren't as many slides as Cox's, you will find some other amenities that aren't offered elsewhere.

The best amenity they offer is you can pick your own pumpkin and gourds from the vines. You ride on a hayride (you won't have to wait 20-30 minutes in line) through the farm and are dropped off in the field to go find your desired pumpkin. Kids get the true feel of where they come from, instead of just picking it out of a bin. They also have my favorite, the Smore's pit. You can roast your own Smores. I'd recommend bringing your own bag of Marshmellow's and Chocolate. They used to give them out for free, but now they charge a bit for them.

Bluemont Hosts Its 41st Annual Country Fair This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, the Bluemont Cititzens Association invites "neighbors" from surrounding communities to join them for a country fair. The fair, a tradition of 41 years, is held in the center of Bluemont, a quaint and delightful village in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

The fair offers more than thirty types of attractions and is sure to please everyone in your family. You'll find juried crafters and live demonstrations of historic crafts. Ladies from towns all around will bring home-baked goods to please your palate, and there are even pie and pickle—yes, I said pickle—making contests. There is an abundance of live music, and your children will also be entertained with games and fun especially for them.
