More than 50 local businesses and organizations have signed up for the 2011 Loudoun County Green Business Challenge, which is designed to encourage participating businesses to increase operational efficiency and reduce their overall carbon footprint.

The Green Business Challenge is a partnership between the Loudoun County Government and the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce to encourage Loudoun businesses to adopt environmentally sound business practices. Businesses are ranked for their environmental practices through a Green Business Challenge Scorecard.

Actions taken by businesses participating in the 2011 Challenge can include conducting office-wide energy audits, having employees turn off lights and computers when not in use, purchasing recycled paper products, and adopting formal telework policies.

More information on registration and the rating system is online at: www.loudoun.gov/greenbusinesschallenge or www.locogreenbiz.org.  The deadline to register and submit a scorecard is August 30, 2011. Winners will be announced at the Gala Event on October 27, 2011.
