Loudoun County Zoning Administrator Dan Schardein Resigns

Loudoun County Zoning Administrator Dan J. Schardein has announced that he is resigning from his position. Citing family reasons, Schardein submitted his resignation effective the end of February 2011.

Schardein came to Loudoun County in February 2009 from Stafford County where he had worked for more than 20 years in the areas of zoning and economic development. As Loudoun County’s Zoning Administrator, Schardein administered and enforced the county’s Zoning Ordinance, and headed the Zoning Administration division within the Department of Building and Development.

Man In Apparent Hillary Clinton Mask Robs Va. Bank

STERLING, Va. (AP) -- Authorities say a man wearing what appeared to be a Hillary Clinton mask has robbed a Sterling bank.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says the robbery occurred at a Wachovia Bank branch in the 47000 block of Community Plaza about 9 a.m. Monday. The man allegedly approached a teller, brandished a firearm and demanded money.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the sheriff's office at (703) 777-0475.

Morning Lights: Monday, December 27

(WUSA) -- Every day in December, 9NEWS NOW at 6:00am is showing off a Christmas or Hanukkah display. It's our daily feature called Morning Lights.

Monday, December 27th we featured the decorations of the Carter family in Potomac Falls, Virginia.  The family's home and yard is decked out in beautiful white lights, accented by a pair of nutcracker soldiers at the front door.  Dad Stefan Carter says his son Stevie helps him put it all together, and it takes two days to assemble.  Click on the video on the right side of this page to check it out.

New Listings To Va. Landmarks Register, Include Prince William, Loudoun and Fairfax

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia has approved 15 additions to its Landmarks Register, including a Lynchburg center of the Civil Rights movement and 10,000 acres in Prince William County where the first Civilian Conservation Corps company was put to work.

The new listings were announced this week by the state Department of Historic Resources. Descriptions of the additions were provided by the department. The sites also will be forwarded to the National Parks Service for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.

They are:

-- The Great Falls Park Historic District in Fairfax County. It encompasses part of the Potomac Canal, an engineering project that was part of George Washington's dream of crating a canals to the Ohio River.
