Volunteer Loudoun Seeks Nominations for Outstanding Volunteers – Deadline Extended

From Loudoun County - Volunteer Loudoun is seeking nominations for the 2011 Volunteer Loudoun Outstanding Volunteer Awards.  This annual program honors citizens and organizations throughout Loudoun County who donate time and service to their community.  Volunteer Loudoun invites you to nominate outstanding individuals who volunteer for your organization or any individual who provided exceptional community service in 2010. 

Nomination forms are available in the Volunteer Loudoun office on the 4th floor of the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E., Leesburg.  Online nominations may be submitted through www.loudoun.gov/volunteerawards.  The deadline for all nominations has been extended to March 18, 2011.

Trusted Traveler Popped by Dulles CBP; No Longer Trusted

STERLING, Va. —A Swiss Army knife, dried eggs and sweet potatoes sounds like the start of a camping side dish, but in reality is was a recipe for disaster for a former trusted traveler at Washington-Dulles International Airport on Tuesday.

Customs and Border Protection officers referred the passenger, who had just arrived from Tokyo, to a random trusted traveler compliance inspection. The passenger answered ‘No” to all questions on the automated Global Entry kiosk. Questions asked if the passenger was bringing anything to the United States, such as agriculture products, currency exceeding $10,000, or commercial merchandise.

Loudoun Woman Charged in $50 Million Mortgage Fraud Scheme Extradited From Turkey

From Loudoun Sheriff:

LEESBURG, VA – An Ashburn woman who fled the United States after being indicted in July 2009 for a mortgage fraud scheme has been extradited from Turkey, completing a years-long effort by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia Office of the Attorney General to bring her to justice, the offices announced at a news conference this morning.   

Diane H. Frederick Atari, 43, is charged with fraudulently fixing her clients' credit and inflating their incomes on financial records to qualify them for homes they could not afford.  Atari is alleged to have personally netted in excess of $1 million from the scheme, with the total loss on the fraudulently obtained mortgages estimated at over $50 million.  She will be arraigned this afternoon at 1:30 PM in Loudoun County Circuit Court.

Two Wanted in Sterling Robbery and Shooting Still At Large

From Loudoun Sheriff:

Loudoun County, VA:  Two of the four people wanted in connection with a botched home invasion robbery last week that left one man dead and another injured are still at large.  The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in locating the pair.  
  
Samuel Thomas Eaton, 27, is wanted for Robbery, Burglary While Armed and Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.  Whitney Lasik, 24, is wanted for being an Accessory After the Fact and Obstruction of Justice.  
  
The two are believed to be together.  Despite earlier reports that they might be en route to North Carolina, it is now believed that they are still in the area.  Eaton should be considered armed and dangerous.

Salon Daniel of McLean, Va. recently treated 54 local teenage girls to a ‘salon day’ in preparation for Pure Fashion Show on Sun., April 3, in Bethesda, Md. The Salon Daniel hair stylists and make-up artists shared their beauty tips and headshots were taken for the Pure Fashion Show program booklet.

 Pure Fashion is a program designed for girls, ages 14 to 18. It is a character formation program that enhances not only a young woman's external appearance, but more importantly, her interior beauty and balanced self confidence.
