Leesburg Route 7/15 Bypass Intersection With Sycolin Road to Close Permanently on June 8, 2013

Sycolin Road will be closed between Gateway Drive and Hope Parkway until August 2014 for construction of overpass

On Saturday, June 8, 2013, the intersection of the Route 7/15 Bypass and Sycolin Road will be closed permanently.  After the intersection is closed, access from the Bypass to Sycolin Road, the Leesburg Executive Airport, Loudoun County’s Philip Bolen Park and other destinations in the southeast sector of Town will be routed via the Dulles Greenway to Battlefield Parkway.  The attached map shows the new traffic patterns.  As a reminder, both Exit 1 (Leesburg Bypass) and Exit 2 (Miller Drive/Battlefield Parkway) from the Dulles Greenway are toll-free.

The intersection closure is necessary for the construction of the Sycolin Overpass.  During construction, Sycolin Road will be closed from Gateway Drive to Hope Parkway.  Construction is expected to last fourteen months.  The overpass will open in August 2014, restoring traffic on Sycolin Road between Gateway Drive and Hope Parkway.  However, there will be no access to Sycolin Road from the Bypass or to the Bypass from Sycolin Road.

In preparation for the start of construction and the intersection closure, VDOT and Shirley Contracting will hold apublic information session on the Sycolin Overpass project at 7pm on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Cool Spring Elementary School.  For more information about the public information session, please contact Seth Bourne, Project Manager with Shirley Contracting, at 703-668-0288, ext 17.
